Since posting this in 2005, I managed to get the recipe for my aunt's mother's vanilice, or vanil grancle (VA-neel GRANT-sleh), the cookies on whose memory I based this recipe. I'm testing the recipe right now (it's chilling in the freezer at this moment) and I'll be posting it on my new blog. Please check back, it's quite a different method!
