This was our first Thanksgiving at home together as a family. (It was Ulysses's second TG; last year we went to a dinner at James Reeb Unitarian Universalist Congregation.)

Don and I have cooked Thanksgiving dinner at home together plenty of times, and even had people over. But somehow, because of Ulysses, it was a family thing.

Even though all he ate was a ring of canned cranberry jelly at dinner and some of my homemade pumpkin pie later, at dessert.

The food was incredible! The roast turkey with olive oil and fresh marjoram and laurel was the best turkey I ever made. The giblet gravy was the best gravy Don ever made. And he makes really good gravy. I'll post the link to the Web site where he got the recipe. The oyster-apple-mushroom stuffing was the best stuffing I ever made. I will post the recipe, because it is my own creation and must not be lost!

Don made corn muffins in the new cast iron muffin pan we got at Savers the other day. They were the best corn muffins out of that pan so far. I made Parker House rolls. A good, toothy bite to the crust, and a good balance to the light inside. Both recipes came out of Joy of Cooking, the 1975 edition. Classic.

We shared a bottle of mead from Germany (or perhaps Holland), a gift from our friends Sigurd and Gloria, that we'd been saving for a special occasion.

Later came the pumpkin pie, with freshly grated nutmeg. The best I've ever made, including my tastiest and most easily worked crust so far.

A banner day for food, overall!
